Which model should you buy?

What Galaxy Should I Upgrade? The Preliminary Galaxy S24 Results for Mobile Device Selectors at Next-to-Leading Order

Looking to upgrade to Samsung’s newest Android smartphone? You can choose from the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, or Galaxy S24 Ultra. These handsets share many of the same specs but also have a few specific features that make each one stand out. So which Galaxy S24 model should you buy? We break it all down to help you choose.

As for Best Buy, you’ll get up to $870 in value after trade-ins and free storage upgrades up to 512GB, along with a $150 gift card. Amazon is offering a free storage upgrade as well, along with a $200 gift card when you redeem the on-page coupon.

Pre orders for the S24 range are live and will ship on January 31. For example, if you buy the base model of the S24+, you will get the 512-gigabyte version for free, and that’s the same price. You can get up to $750 in instant credit when you trade in a device that is eligible. The accident prevention subscription service that comes with the added benefit of same-day replacement and setup of a new device is being discounted by 20 percent. Right now it costs $12 a month.

You may be wondering where you can get one before the official launch later this month. Thankfully, you’ll find nice preorder incentives no matter which carrier or retailer you prefer.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Why You Should Upgrade if You’re a Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S22

Some of these features are fully processed on the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chipset, while others need server-side processing. These phones should also age much more gracefully, as Samsung generously matches Google’s seven-year upgrade promise, guaranteeing you at least seven major Android upgrades and security updates.

If you buy from Amazon, you can take advantage of the same storage upgrade promotion—just choose the storage size you want and you’ll see the lower price reflected. You also get a free $50 Amazon gift card (which you have to redeem yourself, so make sure you save the code). There’s an option to bundle Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 2 Pro earbuds as well for $150 extra; these earbuds have only dipped as low as $160 before, so that’s a solid promotional price if you need new wireless earbuds and want to stay in the Samsung ecosystem.

We here at WIRED always recommend you buy your smartphone unlocked. It makes it simpler to switch carriers, unlike phones that are locked to one network. Taking a locked phone to a new carrier requires contacting your carrier (or visiting their retail store) and jumping through a few hoops to make the device usable elsewhere. It’s easier to use a data only sim card while traveling when it’s unlocked. There’s often a lot less bloatware installed on the phones when you buy one unlocked, and unlocked phones typically receive software updates more quickly than locked ones.

Should you upgrade? If you have the Galaxy S23 or Galaxy S22, there’s no reason to upgrade. You folks with a Galaxy S21 are most likely fine too, unless you’re having issues with your battery or your screeen and can’t get it fixed. If your S21 is still making you mostly happy, save your cash and wait another year (or two). Anyone with an older Samsung phone should feel welcome to upgrade; just know that these are not your only options. It’s worth waiting for the next holiday sale event to see if the prices drop for the S 24 range, so you are not in a rush.

Other great phones are there as well. Phones are unnecessarily expensive these days, and Samsung is pushing prices toward the high end. You don’t need to spend anywhere near $800 to get a great smartphone.
