U-S and South Korea Announces Its Annoucement To Strengthen the Allies: a Test of Cold War Power in the Early 2020s

The presidents of the US and South Korea will make a joint announcement on Wednesday to strengthen their alliance and deter North Korea.

The official said that Washington will deploy a missile submarine to the western Pacific for the first time since the 1980s and follow it with other military hardware.

And it has stepped up joint military drills with South Korea, and the deployment of U.S. aircraft carriers, strategic bombers and submarines. Lloyd Austin promised to make such deployment a routine occurrence during bilateral talks last November.

Washington has made it clear it will not redeploy tactical nuclear weapons to South Korea, as hawks in both countries have called for. President Yoon stated in January that South Korea might need to acquire its own nuclear weapons due to opposition from the US.

North Korea this month tested a new missile which it said was an intercontinental ballistic missile. Nuclear doctrine has been changed to include the possibility of pre-emptive strikes.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Addresses Joint Session of the United States and Senate on Nuclear Deterrence

Economic cooperation will be a major topic during Yoon’s visit. Yoon is being followed by a delegation of roughly 120 business executives, and the two countries’ nations have already announced billions of dollars in deals.

China is a key market for South Korean chipmakers. Lee warned the government to respond to unjust demands from the U.S. No alliance can precede our national interest and the life and livelihood of our people.”

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol treated President Joe Biden and fellow dinner guests to a rendition of Don McLean’s “American Pie” at the White House Wednesday night.

It was the night after the announcement of the Washington Declaration on nuclear deterrence that a lot of people were in attendance.

What are people talking about? Yoon addressed a joint session of Congress on Thursday, touting the deep relationship between the U.S. and South Korea that began 70 years ago. He also dropped several cultural references in speech, which he delivered in English.
